Render Useful Service May 25, 2006

I’m doing a lot of progress in my studies… 447 out of 541 pages! Only 94 pages to go!

After mastering vb.net, I’m planning to give my service for free to a public institution maybe in my elementary school. They are still doing the manual way of storing and retrieving records. Inevitably, a lot of records were destroyed by termites including mine! What are they doing with their computers?!

With this, I would be able to render useful service to my community and this will also compensate my lack of actual work experience in this field (will be useful when applying for a job).

Habit Status:  I’m not satisfied in the completion of my “to do list” today, because someone ruined my concentration… Taylor Hicks! SOUL PATROL! :)

Another bad habit that I will do away with is my use of an intolerant tone of voice when I get irritated. This is the tone of voice that a child makes when he/she have tantrums. I high pitch angry voice. I know it’s funny, but it’s not only me who do this; I observe that most of my acquaintances have this tone of voice when they are irritated. And it’s not nice to hear. Even if what you say is right, your message won’t be heartily accepted if you use an irritated voice

It’s natural to show your dissatisfaction through your voice. But I believe it would be more appealing if you communicate your discontentment in a calm and firm tone of voice. People will see you as a confident and “cool” person… a person who deserves respect. People will most often respond favorably with this.

Now how can I watch myself against this? Shall I use a piece of paper and count the number of times I used this irritated voice? Hmmmm…. sounds like a lot of work… I know! I’ll bang my head on a wall!

Baby Steps to Success – Law of Growth May 23, 2006

It’s a good day to day! I have 65% accomplished my Power List for the day. Good boy! A tap on the back Chazper ^_^

I woke up 5:00 in the morning, 1 hour ahead of my schedule. I guess it’s a good start. Though I graded myself as 65% I know I will do better tomorrow!

I found a good ebook about this gradual improvement at http://www.successrichfamous.com

The author called it the LAW OF GROWTH. Along with the principle of consistency when used together form the basis of almost ALL long term success. Mr. Clifford Mee continued…

“The law of growth is simply this – if you increase your efficiency or concentration or applied knowledge or your understanding by just 1% each and every day then your improvement over an entire year will be COLOSSAL.”

“If you add the 1% up over a year you’ll improve 365%. Now imagine yourself improving like this for 5 years.”

“Success is a progression of small steps, one building on another, eventually creating monumental momentum.”

“The law of growth is achieved by taking things step by step by step. You only get to take the big steps once you’ve done the smaller ones first.”

Almost everyone who reads self help books immediately tries to form new habits and try to replace the bad ones.  But oftentimes we slip back to our bad habits. As prevention, I made an activity list and printed it. Through out my day this will serve as a reminder of my desired habits.

Yes I know the problem of these to do lists, we may not follow them exactly as they are listed but the important thing is that we do the activities (at least the most important activities).

The Magic Key of Concentration May 19, 2006

I’ve been distracted for a few days now from my planned day to day activities toward the achievement of my goal of having a successful IT career.

Got too excited of that luxury cruiser job, I’ve lost focused on my dream job. I’m only considering that cruiser job because of its super duper salary.

I’m over a hundred pages behind schedule of mastering Visual Basic.Net! Better get back to the game.

Got to focus… Got to CONCENTRATE!

—————————————————————————————————————————————-

I am going to become a successful IT professional because this will enable me to render my prospective company and clients useful service that is needed – and because it will yield me a financial return that will provide me and my loved ones with the necessary material things of life.

I will CONCENTRATE MY MIND upon this desire for ten minutes daily, just before retiring and just after arising in the morning, for the purpose of determining and doing the things I need to do in order to transform it into reality.

I know that I can become a successful IT professional, therefore I will permit nothing to interfere with my doing so.

(Itaga mo sa bato!) Signed,

Chazper

How to Forgive and Why May 18, 2006

Status Report:

Mirror Technique:

Woke up this morning and found myself in front of my mirror. Hmm… two minutes have past but I still don’t feel enthusiastic. Decided to take a shower and have a nice shave. Played some upbeat songs and greeted myself again in the mirror with a smile. Repeated the word “enthusiasm” and “get excited” and thought of happy things that I look forward to this day… and bingo! I feel enthusiastic!

Forgiveness:

I finally have been able to talk to my Dad. Of course there are still some negative thoughts that came in my mind but I repeatedly said to myself… I don’t have to forgive him again; I have already forgiven him… I have already forgiven him…

Next step is to practice forgiveness to other people… Yes, PRACTICE…. This is an exercise that I must perform if ever I really want to overcome guilt, fear, anger and depression. The following is an excerpt from “The Millionaire’s Seminar”

Because unforgivingness, resentment, create guilt, and speaking of creating guilt, all guilt, all guilt, all guilt, all guilt, all guilt, all guilt is a creation, an invention of the human mind. Each individual invents his own guilt and guilt in turn creates the feeling of ‘don’t deserve’, ‘don’t deserve’, ‘don’t deserve’, ‘don’t deserve’. Therefore, for those of us who are aspiring for greater wealth, we must reduce, we must diminish guilt in order to develop, to nurture a greater feeling of deservingness. I deserve, I deserve, I deserve a beautiful love relationship, and I deserve magnificent health. I deserve whatever degree of success that I wish in business or career. I deserve the affluence that I want. I deserve all things for which I yearn, hunger, long, desire. And guilt in its incipiency and in its maturity, guilt imbeds itself deep within the subconscious mind where we’re frequently not aware of its presence.

The exercise that I personally practice is during the day, I remind myself frequently when I see people, when I’m driving down the freeway, when I’m walking down the street, silently I glance at somebody and I’ll think ‘I forgive you’. A perfect stranger, I’ve never seen the person before and I’ll never see that person again, what is there to forgive when that person couldn’t conceivably have done anything to me. I am practicing forgiveness, I am practicing forgiveness, I am practicing forgiveness, use everybody you see to silently practice ‘I forgive you’, ‘I forgive you’, ‘I forgive you’, ‘I forgive you’, ‘I forgive you’, ‘I forgive you’, ‘I forgive you’, ‘I forgive you’, ‘I forgive you’, ‘I forgive you’, ‘I forgive you’.

On and on and on and on, how many thousands don’t keep score it isn’t important, because there is a constant cleansing that needs to take place. And in addition to that I forgive myself. For what? Don’t go back and look, don’t go back and analyze, don’t go back and seek out failures, mistakes, don’t go back looking for anything that might have gone wrong that you were responsible for, merely as a general policy, I forgive myself over and over again.

“Until you have learned to be tolerant with those who do not always agree with you; until you have cultivated the habit of saying some kind word of those whom you do not admire; until you have formed the habit of looking for the good instead of the bad there is in others, you will be neither successful nor happy” Napoleon Hill

I Forgive Myself May 16, 2006

It’s 11:00 pm, lights turned off. I’m about to sleep but decided to finally do it.

I sat and closed my eyes; I took several deep breaths and relaxed. I imagined myself sitting with my Dad in front of me. I gently took his hands and looked him in the eye and said…

“Dad… I feel a great resentment over you because… you are a loser…”

I imagined looking at him… his face… his eyes… holding his hands. I imagined his reaction, I imagined him wanting to let go of my hands, but I continued and said…

“Dad… I forgive you… I forgive you…”

“I’ve realized… whenever people look down on you because of your flaws… I’ve realized that I should overcome within myself those same flaws. Whenever grandpa mocks at your lack of self-confidence, courage and good disposition in life … I’ve realized that I should also be on guard against those negative qualities of yours. I admit that I too have some flaws to overcome. With you around, I could better understand the seriousness of the consequences if I will not overcome my own flaws.”

“Now I forgive you Dad. This is it for the rest of my life; I’ll never have to forgive you again, because I’m forgiving you now and forever, for all eternity, you whom I have permitted to cause the greatest resentment in my self. I now totally forgive you. I am no longer your prisoner. I am no longer the prisoner of resentment. I set myself free from you now. I wish you well and I send you on your way blessing you… may you find happiness Dad.”

After that… I repeatedly said to myself… I FORGIVE MYSELF. Not thinking of any reasons… not thinking of any failures… I forgive myself…

I forgive myself…

Have a blessed day to all.

The Mirror Technique – Building Enthusiasm May 14, 2006

One of the reasons I decided to have this habit of blogging is to build other good habits and eliminate the bad ones. And the next habit I would like to develop in order to achieve success is to perform this Mirror Technique that builds enthusiasm. The following is an excerpt from “The Millionaires Seminar” by Foster Hibbard thru’ Mr. John Harricharan.

“You’ll never have the success you want without working on enthusiasm and making it a part of you, without saying over and over and over again until it just becomes a part of every cell, tissue and fiber of you body, till it tingles, scintillates, sets up a vibration called enthusiasm, enthusiasm, enthusiasm.

And taking words like “get excited, get excited, get excited” raising yourself up, standing before the mirror, using that technique that Teddy Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Andrew Carnegie, Billy Sunday, Napoleon Hill, all insisted that of all the self improvement techniques they ever tried, all insisted that the mirror technique was the most powerful. Just stand there in front of that mirror with you door carefully closed and tell yourself, “I am enthusiastic, I am enthusiastic, I am enthusiastic”, over and over again. Tell whoever is looking out at you from your mirror, whoever you see in that mirror of yours looking at you, and it doesn’t really matter who it is, just tell that person over and over and over again enthusiasm, enthusiasm, get excited, get excited, get excited. Work on enthusiasm, work on it as though it were a physical program. You wouldn’t expect your muscles in the stomach would tighten without doing muscle exercises, you wouldn’t expect the muscles in your legs to improve unless you did leg exercises, therefore accept the fact that these emotional, these mental exercises must be practiced, must be worked upon in order to achieve whatever it is that you want to achieve.”

Being a Professional Job Seeker May 13, 2006

Currently I am unemployed. Some people take this negatively but I take advantage of this very rare opportunity of being a Professional Job Seeker… I like that term! ^_^

Here are some things that you can NOT do if currently employed.

  1. ACTIVELY and OPENLY seek for another job. If you are employed and seeks employment from another company, there is a possibility that you will be seen as UNLOYAL. This is very true with Japanese manufacturing companies. Therefore if you are unemployed….
  2. You have the FREEDOM to choose a better job and a better company! So if you have planned your unemployment carefully, you should have enough savings to help you get by for a year. This will give you ample time to CHOOSE a better job/company than your previous one.
  3. Also with the time you have, you can upgrade your skills and knowledge! By taking short term course while in the process of job hunting. The job market nowadays is very tight; you need to stand out from the rest and what better way to do this is to upgrade your skills and knowledge!
  4. Again with the time you have, you can go out with friends a lot more! Or you could visit them. Not only you can have a lot of fun… you also increases your chances of landing a good job through them! Just inform them about your ideal job and you would be glad if they could call you if ever they have information about a job opening. Networking… networking… networking

I must admit that one of the objects of my definite chief aim in life is Financial Freedom. And to get that freedom I plan to have a high paying job. Base on my research, taking in consideration of jobs overseas demand, average salary and my personality… I plan to have a career shift in IT specifically in software development.

But today there was a change of plan… I got a call from a relative who is working in a luxury cruiser. She recommended me to their company and I was shock on the salary of the position she put me on. It was sooooooo high! Its monthly salary was the equivalent of TWO years of my previous salary!

Still, I need to follow up that application and hope for an interview! What did I say about networking? ^_^

Career Shift – Find work you like best May 12, 2006

Doogie Howser MD the boy genius… one of my favorite American TV program when I was in high school. After every episode, he goes to his computer and writes a short witty lesson learned. In my opinion, this is his way of training his subconscious mind and be a better person.

Now with blog, I’ll start my own journal and leave a small print of my existence in this world. This is for the purpose of recording my progress in achieving my definite chief aim in life. I do hope that I would meet success driven people in here and fellow students of Mr. Napoleon Hill.

Brief Career History:

An Industrial Engineer for about 5 years in the manufacturing industry. Worked my way up from cadet engineer to a supervisory position. After realizing that my real PASSION is in Information Technology, I took steps in having a career shift in IT. I took up programming course while working. I put up an internet café business and gave up my job. But after more than a year, I was forced to sell my business due to poor market conditions.

For three months now, I’m actively seeking for a job. Well, I could easily land a good job in a manufacturing company but I decided to pursue my dream job. I was selective; my immediate goal is to land a job in a global company that deals with software development. Unlike other countries, age discrimination is NOT prohibited in the Philippines. Realizing this and being 28 years old, this is my last good chance in making a career shift in a totally unrelated line of work.

So far so good, I had several on going job applications… I’ve took those dreaded qualifying exams for programmers. Having a real knack in logic and mathematics, I have managed to pass the exams. I know because they called me and performed a short phone interview. Still I’m waiting for a job offer. I don’t know in other countries, but the process of hiring in here takes a long time. And some would not bother to call and inform you if you passed or not, they just leave you waiting.

The following is my daily schedule of activities:

  1. Check e-mail.
  2. Apply (jobstreet, network, referrals)
  3. Read ebooks (Winning the Interview Game – a good reference for jobseekers)
  4. Practice interview
  5. Mastering Visual Basic.Net for 15 days (I’m 90 pages behind schedule!)
  6. Learning Japanese (if I still have time)
  7. Going to Manila (2 hours trip) for a qualifying exam or interview. (whole day)

These are all for the purpose of achieving my immediate goal… of having my dream job. Hey, what good is a job if you don’t enjoy doing it? And in my opinion, having been in the manufacturing industry for over 5 years, IT people have better salaries and better opportunities ahead of them. (imo)
